Eric Pérez, who works mostly in painting, is interested in the expression of situations that link humans with nature; he tries to approach this using a pictorial representational language. One notable characteristic of his work is the redefinition he gives to ordinary situations and every scene he portrays. Although his work is based on everyday environments, Pérez, rather than representing what he sees, creates images that place the spectator in an act of contemplation in such a way that personal experience is the important element of perception. He tends to work in large formats and does not use other techniques, such as photography to recreate compositions. The canvas and the use of particular colors create atmospheres where memory manipulates reality. He creates a universe where the individual believes himself.
Among the awards he has received, are the Acquisition Award in the XIII Rufino Tamayo Biennial Exhibition, Mexico City (2006), the Young Creators Award of FONCA, Mexico (2000, 2003, 2006). He recently took part in the collective exhibition Hangar-7 in Salzburgo, Austria (2007), curated by Lioba Reddeker.
